The Best Places in Lake Tahoe to Get Your Mountain High

The Best Places in Lake Tahoe to Get Your Mountain High

By: Kayla Anderson

November 8, 2016 marked a historic time in Lake Tahoe when Nevada and California voters passed measures to legalize marijuana. Since then, lawmakers cemented new laws regarding the once taboo substance to allow persons 21 or older to have up to one ounce of marijuana on them and easily walk in and buy products from their local dispensaries. Likewise, weed aficionado entrepreneurs scrambled to scoop up available dispensary permits to provide Tahoe locals and guests a one-of-a-kind mountain high (or products that have more CBD than THC for the medicinal benefits, of course). It’s exciting to be able to enhance your Tahoe experience with a little cannabis, therefore here are my top three dispensary picks in the Tahoe Basin.

NuLeaf, Incline Village

As the only cannabis dispensary on Tahoe’s North Shore on the Nevada side, NuLeaf is a boutique cannabis shop that has an exterior that looks like that of a health foods store, but I assure you that it contains a bit of a different product selection than Sprouts. From various strains of marijuana flower to edibles, topicals, and tinctures, NuLeaf keeps a high-end inventory of all your cannabis needs. They change out their collection often, but I am a fan of the pre-rolls and the chocolate bars. It is worth noting though that NuLeaf offers many of the same cannabis products available at dispensaries in Carson City and Reno but there is usually a markup on them because you know, you are buying it at the lake.

Tahoe Wellness Center, South Lake Tahoe

Founded in 2009, Tahoe Wellness Center was one of the first cannabis dispensaries on the scene. It started helping terminally ill and low-income patients help alleviate their ailments before opening it up to the general public ages 21-plus. The budtenders are friendly, compassionate, and make great recommendations on pre-rolls, extracts, and a huge selection of flower. Smoke some cannabis strains with names like Watermelon Gelato, Baklava, or Willie’s Reserve Mimosa. As Tahoe Wellness Center has evolved over the years, it has added its own cultivation facility and licensed extraction process making many of its cannabis products one of a kind. Plus, the Tahoe Wellness Center is one of the only places that sells marijuana seeds for popular strains like Banana Glue and Girl Scout Cookies.

Located off Highway 50 on 3445 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, the Tahoe Wellness Center is also within walking distance to the lake.

Tahoe CBD, South Lake Tahoe

As an online-only company that offers free shipping to anyone in the South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe CBD is unique in the sense that it sells “full spectrum” CBD products with a high technology process that extracts the highest amount of terpenes and phytocannabinoids out of the hemp plant. Many of their full spectrum oils, capsules, salves, and gummies lean towards the CBD heavy medicinal side but Tahoe CBD also delivers THC-chocked flower and pre-rolls, too. Have a pup in pain from too much running or jumping? Consider getting him a Tahoe CBD tincture in natural, chicken or bacon flavor.
